We have four introductory statistics classes for students with different backgrounds and interests:
- STAT 101 is our introductory course for students with no previous statistics and no calculus. (All other intro courses require at least a semester of calculus.) STAT 101 uses the statistical software R or JMP. Note that STAT 101 does not satisfy the prerequisite for Econ 255 (Econometrics).
- STAT 161 is an introductory course for social science majors with no previous statistics and at least one semester of calculus. STAT 161 satisfies the requirement for ECON 255 (Econometrics) and uses the statistics software STATA.
- STAT 201 is the introductory course for students who plan to major in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or possibly other Division III disciplines and have no previous statistics experience. It uses the statistical software R and has a multivariable calculus (MATH 150/151) pre- or corequisite.
- STAT 202 is our entry level course for students with previous statistics experience. The typical STAT 202 student is someone who got a 4 or 5 on the AP Statistics exam, or who took STAT 101 or STAT 161 and wants a second course in statistics. STAT 202 uses the statistical software R.
